What is myopia

Short-sightedness, also known as ‘myopia’, can make seeing things at a distance blurry. If your child’s eyes are myopic, they may find it tricky to read the whiteboard or watch their favourite TV show from afar. Myopia is typically caused by the eye growing slightly too long. Your child might also find that their chances of being short-sighted are more likely if members of the family also have myopia.

Why is this happening?

There is a link to modern lifestyles, near-vision activities and increased screen time – but genetics also plays a part.

Does my child need regular eye exams?

Just like your child grows with every birthday, their eyes continue to change as they get older. Regular eye exams can help spot any changes that may affect their vision, making it easier to support their development and day-to-day activities. They also play an important role in keeping your child’s eyes healthy for the future.

What are the Myopia Management options for my child?

All myopia management systems work on a principle of creating blur in the peripheral (outer area) vision. Scientists have identified through in-depth studies, that by creating this blur, the eye is less likely (around 67% less likely) to develop myopia.
This is the basis of how both the Stellest and MiSight systems work.

Both the 2 systems which we offer, are the most researched, and for that reason are the only ones with full FDA approval.
